Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger signs new contract at La Liga giants

The Spanish giants confirmed that the Germany international had agreed a new deal, extending his stay by an additional season after his previous contract was due to expire at the end of June.

In an official statement, Real Madrid said: "Real Madrid C. F. and Antonio Rüdiger have agreed to extend the contract of our player, binding him to the club until June 30, 2027."

Rudiger also shared his delight on social media, making it clear that he remains determined to help the club return to its best form.

"I am not done here," he wrote. "Renewing my journey with Real Madrid is a proud moment, but more than anything, it's a commitment to turning things around together with my teammates.

"We are going through a demanding phase. The setbacks have tested us, but this is exactly where I want to be."

The 33-year-old admitted that injuries had created challenges during the past season but insisted they had only strengthened his motivation.

"Some people may have written me off after my injuries, but that only motivated me even more," Rudiger said. "Anyone who knows me knows that I love challenges - I thrive on them.

"Even though things haven't been simple last season, my belief remains absolute. We stand together, we fight together and we will overcome this together."

Rudiger is currently part of Germany's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is expected to play a key role for Real Madrid next season.

The experienced defender's importance has grown following David Alaba's departure and Eder Militao's long-term injury setback. Madrid have also strengthened their defence by bringing in Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer from Liverpool.

With new head coach Jose Mourinho beginning his second spell in charge, competition for places at the back is set to be intense. Rudiger will battle for a starting role alongside Konate, Raul Asencio and Dean Huijsen as Madrid prepare for another demanding campaign.
