Remo Stars crowned NPFL champions for first time, earn FIFA praise

The Sky Blue Stars sealed the championship with a crucial 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes on matchday 35, before celebrating in style with a resounding 4-1 win against Ikorodu City on matchday 37.

Having finished as runners-up in the previous two campaigns, Remo Stars' triumph is a testament to their consistency, tactical evolution, and a strong commitment to youth development.

The club's long-term planning and resilience finally paid off, crowning them national champions for the first time.

The achievement has not gone unnoticed on the global stage. FIFA President Gianni Infantino sent an official letter of congratulations to Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), acknowledging Remo Stars' milestone.

"By means of this letter, I am pleased to congratulate the new champions of Nigeria, Remo Stars FC," Mr Infantino wrote.

"Their constant efforts and results throughout the season have paid off, resulting in this important title."

With this title, Remo Stars have also earned the honour of representing Nigeria in the 2024/25 CAF Champions League.

Although this marks their fourth consecutive appearance in continental competition, it will be their first as national champions - a significant leap in the club's journey.
