Tunisia had sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi immediately after the heavy 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opener and roped in Frenchman Herve Renard as they attempted to revive their campaign.
"We were hoping for a better reaction, a better performance," said Renard after the match.
"Unfortunately, the score was heavy, but this reflects the difference between the teams. Today, we were lacking good defensive organisation. In the first 20 minutes of the second half, we were more rigorous, but this was not enough.
"Even if we are eliminated, we still have a third game to play. We are in a World Cup, and we must remain focused. It is important to get ready to fight for this third game against the Netherlands."
The North African nation will turn their attention to their last match against the Netherlands next Friday in Kansas City as they look to end their tournament on a high note.
"It's never easy after two losses in two games, but we must take our responsibilities to be professionals to the very end," concluded Renard.
