Report: Dominic Calvert-Lewin discusses free transfer with Newcastle

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has long admired the 28-year-old forward, and the club previously explored a deal last summer before walking away due to the financial cost.

With Newcastle now qualified for next season's Champions League, there is renewed interest in bolstering their attacking depth.

Calvert-Lewin would likely compete with Alexander Isak for the central striker role at St James' Park. Isak has been in superb form, netting 44 league goals over the past two seasons.

Former backup Callum Wilson, who had been in talks over a contract extension, has now left the club following the expiry of his deal.

Newcastle are not alone in their pursuit of Calvert-Lewin. Manchester United are also reportedly considering him as a forward option, having shifted focus after losing out on Viktor Gyokeres, who opted to join Arsenal instead.

United are looking to strengthen their frontline and view Calvert-Lewin as a proven Premier League option.

Leeds United, newly promoted to the Premier League, were also keen on signing the former Everton man, but could not meet his wage demands.
