Report: Everton and West Ham battle to land Douglas Luiz

The 27-year-old has failed to settle in Italy since his move from Aston Villa and is now plotting a return to England, where he previously impressed.

Everton and West Ham are leading the race for his signature. Toffees boss David Moyes is eager to land a marquee signing ahead of the club's highly anticipated move to a new stadium, and views Luiz's Premier League experience as vital.

West Ham, meanwhile, are also keen to bolster their midfield options and see Luiz as a potential key addition.

Graham Potter is also reportedly monitoring Luiz's situation closely. While Manchester United had discussed a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho earlier this year, those talks have since cooled.

Aston Villa, despite having an option to re-sign the midfielder, have shown no interest in bringing him back. Arsenal, once close to securing Luiz's services, have moved on after strengthening their midfield earlier this summer.

Juventus are hoping to secure a permanent deal but could be open to a loan to reduce their wage bill.

Luiz, who came through the Vasco da Gama youth ranks and made 35 appearances for the Brazilian side in 2016-17, spent two seasons on loan at Girona before becoming a regular at Aston Villa.
