Report: Gianluigi Donnarumma deal derailed - Man Utd's goalkeeper hunt hits snag

The 26-year-old Italian, widely regarded as one of the world's top shot-stoppers, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but Romano has clarified that no negotiations are underway.

Donnarumma earned global praise last season, delivering standout performances in PSG's Champions League triumph. His heroics against Liverpool and Arsenal in the knockout stages secured his spot in the competition's team of the season.

However, with his contract set to expire in June 2026, PSG have struggled to agree on a new deal, sparking speculation about his future.

Adding fuel to the fire, PSG are closing in on a move for Lille's Lucas Chevalier, with personal terms already agreed and negotiations ongoing for a fee around 40 million euros, according to L'Équipe. This has led some to believe Donnarumma could be available for a cut-price transfer, with United reportedly leading the chase.

Sky Sports confirmed United's interest, while The Telegraph reported PSG were preparing for a fresh approach from the Red Devils after an earlier enquiry.

Despite the buzz, Romano poured cold water on the rumours. "There are no negotiations between PSG, Manchester United, and Donnarumma," he said on his YouTube channel.

"PSG are working on a deal for Chevalier, which could create an interesting situation, but there's a concrete possibility Donnarumma stays, competes for his spot, and decides his future in 2026."

Romano added on X: "No talks ongoing at this stage between Donnarumma and Man United or Chelsea. Nothing concrete despite reports."

United's search for goalkeeping reinforcement comes amid doubts over Andre Onana's consistency. The Red Devils had a loan bid for Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez rejected in July, with Villa holding firm on a 40-million-pound valuation for a permanent deal.

United have also been linked with Royal Antwerp's 23-year-old Senne Lammens as a potential long-term option.

While Donnarumma's future remains uncertain, Romano's update suggests United fans will need to look elsewhere for their next goalkeeping hero. For now, the Italian star appears content to fight for his place at PSG, leaving United's transfer plans in limbo.
