Report: Kaizer Chiefs and Nasreddine Nabi set for shock split

The Tunisian tactician, who only took charge in July 2024, is understood to be finalising his contract termination, despite still having a year left on his deal.

According to Sowetan insiders, Nabi will not travel with Amakhosi for Saturday's CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash against Angolan side Kabuscorp.

Instead, he is expected to conclude exit talks on Thursday after relations between him and the club hierarchy reportedly collapsed beyond repair.

The development comes just days after Chiefs suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium - their first league loss of the season.

"It's been a long time coming. The coach and management were never on the same page. They were worlds apart. Expect a statement confirming his departure soon," a source told the publication.

While Nabi guided the Naturena based outfit to the Nedbank Cup last season, ending a 10-year trophy drought, his ninth-place league finish - with only eight wins in 28 matches - left the hierarchy dissatisfied.

Reports also suggest personal matters played a role in his decision. His wife suffered a serious accident in Tunisia, and during his compassionate leave last month, Chiefs went on a winning run under assistants Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

Speculation has also swirled around Nabi's coaching badges, though the 58-year-old holds a UEFA Pro Licence and previously led Tanzanian giants Yanga to the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup final.

With his imminent departure, Amakhosi face yet another rebuilding chapter, raising questions about stability at Naturena.
