Report: Kaizer Chiefs star Gaston Sirino facing R6.1 million tax bill

According to a report by Sunday World, the Uruguayan international is alleged to have ignored previous demands from SARS to settle the debt. The publication claims that SARS has now applied for a default judgment against the player in the Johannesburg High Court after he allegedly failed to respond to a formal letter of demand issued in March 2025.

An excerpt from the letter, as quoted in the report, reads:

"According to the records of the South African Revenue Service, you have failed to pay your tax debt for one or more tax years and tax periods. You are requested to make full payment within 10 days from the date of this letter of demand."

SARS has reportedly warned Sirino that continued non-compliance could lead to serious legal consequences. These include civil judgment, asset seizure, and the appointment of third parties to recover the funds owed.

"Failure to make full payment may result in the following actions: SARS may appoint any third party who presently or in the future will owe you money or hold money for you to settle your tax debt. A warrant of execution may be issued for the sheriff of the court to attach and sell your assets," the letter reportedly continues.

The 33-year-old joined Kaizer Chiefs earlier this year after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns, and has since been working to establish himself as a key figure at Naturena. However, this looming tax issue could cast a shadow over what was expected to be a fresh chapter in his PSL career.

Neither Sirino nor Kaizer Chiefs have issued a public statement regarding the matter at the time of writing.
