Report: Liverpool stand firm as Barcelona chase Luis Diaz signature

The Reds are unwavering in their stance, determined to keep the 28-year-old, whose versatility across the front line has made him a cornerstone of their squad.

Díaz, who joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022, has been a standout performer this season, featuring in 50 matches across all competitions, scoring 17 goals, and providing eight assists. His ability to shine on the left wing, as a central striker, or on the right has attracted firm interest from Barcelona and Al-Nassr.

However, Liverpool, with Diaz's contract running until June 2027, have no intention of letting him go, wary of the risk of losing him for free if negotiations drag on.

According to The Athletic, Barcelona tabled a formal offer for Diaz on Wednesday, only to see it swiftly rebuffed by the Anfield hierarchy. Despite the rejection, Barcelona remain undeterred, viewing Liverpool's hardline stance as a potential negotiation tactic.

The Catalans are aware of Díaz's openness to a new challenge under their manager Hansi Flick, but they are prepared to play the long game in the summer transfer window.

Flick, who takes charge of Barcelona's pre-season preparations on July 13, is eager to have his squad finalised early but understands the complexities of transfer talks.

Barcelona's sporting director Deco recently addressed the interest in Diaz, telling the BBC: "Marcus Rashford and Luis Diaz? These are talented players, but they have contracts with their clubs, so we won't speculate out of respect. When we enter the market, we'll find the right names. I don't think we need many signings."

While Barcelona remain optimistic about prising Diaz away, they have contingency plans in place should Liverpool hold firm. The Reds' resolute position underscores their determination to keep a player integral to their ambitions, leaving the transfer saga poised for further twists.

The sentiment on X suggests Liverpool supporters are united in wanting to keep Diaz, while Barcelona fans are hopeful but cautious about the deal's prospects.
