Report: Man Utd accelerate midfield rebuild as Ederson move fades

The Red Devils have already agreed a 50 million pounds deal for Chelsea's Andrey Santos, who is expected to become their first arrival of the off-season.

Attention has now shifted towards further reinforcements, with Roma's Manu Kone and Wolves' Joao Gomes emerging as the most attainable options.

United have intensified their interest in Kone after the France international impressed during the World Cup.

Graeme Bailey reported that the midfielder is eager to experience Premier League football, while a transfer is expected to cost about £50 million. However, reports indicate another major rival is attempting to hijack the move.

The club have also opened discussions with Wolves over Gomes after his proposed switch to Atletico Madrid broke down. The Brazilian is expected to command a similar fee and is widely anticipated to leave Wolves following their relegation to the Championship.

United also remain admirers of Bournemouth's Alex Scott after an earlier approach was rejected before the club pursued Mateus Fernandes.

Another bid has not been ruled out, while Lille and Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi is also under consideration, with journalist Eduardo Burgos reporting that United's long-standing interest dates back to the start of the year.

Meanwhile, the anticipated signing of Atalanta's Ederson appears increasingly unlikely. Although United insist the transfer remains alive and have made no official announcement, numerous reports claim the deal has collapsed despite an earlier agreement worth an initial 35 million pounds.

Concerns reportedly surfaced over the 27-year-old Brazil international's right knee during his medical, although Atalanta maintain he is fully fit.

Fabrizio Romano said Ederson has since left England, was disappointed after missing out on what he considered his dream move, and will holiday before returning to Atalanta, with another Premier League side now reportedly monitoring his situation.
