Ange Postecoglou eyes Europa League glory amid Tottenham's struggles
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has challenged his players to "make an impact" by winning the Europa League, even as uncertainty hangs over his future at the club.
Spurs have endured a torrid Premier League campaign, languishing in 17th place with only the three relegated teams below them. Despite their domestic struggles, they have shone in Europe and are gearing up to face Manchester United in the Europa League final on May 21, in Bilbao.
However, a defeat in that match coupled with their dismal league position could push key players like Porro to seek greener pastures.
Porro, 25, has been a standout performer, notching four goals and nine assists across all competitions this season, following an impressive four goals and eight assists last term. His attacking flair and defensive solidity have caught the eye of Europe's elite.
According to reports from Caught Offside, Spurs have set an asking price of around 60-65 million euros for the Spaniard, a figure that reflects his importance to the squad.
Barcelona have been closely tracking Porro, but their financial constraints could complicate any potential move. "Barca's interest is genuine, but they'll need to get creative to fund a deal of this magnitude," said a source close to the Catalan club.
Meanwhile, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also in the race, with both clubs reportedly ready to make bold moves.
City, where Porro briefly played before joining Spurs, see him as a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker, who is expected to depart permanently this summer.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed Walker's likely exit, stating, "Kyle Walker will 100% leave Manchester City, whether AC Milan sign him or not."
While Romano highlighted Newcastle's Tino Livramento as one name on City's right-back shortlist, Porro's prior links with the club and his proven Premier League pedigree make him a strong contender.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have emerged as serious suitors, with reports indicating they view Porro as a key target to bolster their backline. "Bayern are impressed by Porro's versatility and attacking output," noted transfer insider Marcel Andreas on X.
Tottenham, however, are determined to hold firm. Manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking ahead of the Europa League semi-final second leg against Bodo/Glimt, emphasized the club's resolve to keep their stars. "We're building something here, and players like Pedro are central to that," he said. "We're not looking to let our best talents walk away easily."
No official statements have surfaced from Porro or Tottenham's social media accounts on X regarding the transfer speculation, but the player's focus remains on the pitch. He started in Spurs' 3-1 first-leg win over Bodo/Glimt and is expected to feature prominently in the final.
As the transfer window looms, Tottenham face a critical juncture. Retaining Porro could signal their ambition to rebound from a disappointing season, but with Europe's heavyweights circling, Spurs must prepare for a fight to keep their star right-back.
