Report: Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka stay put as Bayern Munich bolster squad depth

Renowned German journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed that Bayern have decided to keep Gnabry as a vital option on the right wing, where he will compete with new signing Michael Olise.

"Serge Gnabry is set to stay at FC Bayern this summer and has no intention of leaving the club," Plettenberg reported on X. The winger's versatility and experience are seen as crucial, especially with Leroy Sane having joined Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Bayern's attacking depth is a priority, and Gnabry's retention provides manager Vincent Kompany with quality options off the bench. The club's sporting director, Max Eberl, has assured Gnabry's representatives that he is no longer a candidate for sale.

Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka has made it clear he intends to fight for his place at the Allianz Arena. Despite Bayern's openness to offers for the midfielder, as Eberl would consider a sale if a suitable bid arrives, Goretzka's determination to stay was confirmed by Plettenberg: "Leon Goretzka also wants to stay and has no plans to move."

The 30-year-old faces stiff competition in midfield, with Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic expected to form Bayern's preferred double-pivot. However, Goretzka, alongside Conrad Laimer and Joao Palhinha, provides enviable cover in the engine room.

Bayern's midfield strategy reflects their ambition to dominate both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League. The addition of Tom Bischof, who agreed to join from TSG Hoffenheim on a free transfer for the 2025-26 season, further strengthens their options.

The decision to retain Gnabry and Goretzka signals Bayern's intent to build a squad capable of sustaining a title challenge on multiple fronts. With Kompany's side already securing the 2024-25 Bundesliga title, as confirmed by ESPN, the focus now shifts to fine-tuning the roster for the expanded FIFA Club World Cup and a deep Champions League run.

For now, Bayern fans can breathe easy knowing Gnabry's flair and Goretzka's tenacity will remain at the club, ready to ignite the Allianz Arena in the seasons ahead.
