Darrel Matsheke opens up about shock Stellenbosch exit
Darrel Matsheke has opened up about his exit from Stellenbosch following his return to the Betway Premiership this season with Marumo Gallants.
After a record-breaking 2024/25 campaign that saw them finish eighth and qualify for the MTN8 for the first time, the Natal Rich Boys have set their sights even higher.
Club chairman Sifiso "Jomo" Biyela believes a top-four finish is within reach if the club builds on the lessons of last season.
"Some of the games we let slip away were in our hands. With the right additions, we believe we can compete with the best," Biyela reflected at the club's unveiling as quoted by IOL.
The Natal Rich Boys unveiled 11 new players - including marquee signings Gabadinho Mhango, Sandile Zuke, and Lindokuhle Mtshali.
But alongside the big names, Richards Bay have remained loyal to their development philosophy. Several promising academy products have been promoted, reinforcing the club's commitment to building from within and offering young talent a pathway to the top.
Head coach Ronnie Gabriel, who continues his co-leadership with Papi Zothwane, said the team's identity won't change despite the influx of new players.
"We're still in a phase of growth. We'll continue focusing on development, structure, and preparing players to compete at the highest level," said Gabriel.
Last season proved that Richards Bay belong in the conversation. With a blend of youth, experience, and a clear footballing vision, the club isn't just aiming for short-term success - it's building a sustainable future.
The KwaZulu-Natal outfit will kick-start their 2025/26 campaign with an away fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Wafa Wafa tournament.
