Roberto De Zerbi urges Tottenham to 'stay calm' as goal drought deepens

Spurs have now gone four league matches without scoring, becoming the first Tottenham side to fail to find the net in each of their opening four games of a campaign.

De Zerbi admitted he understood the supporters' frustration and apologised for another disappointing result.

"I'm sorry for the fans. We are sorry to the fans," he said.

"They were fantastic, especially in the first part of the game because when they see the team is playing well, pushing to find the solution, they were inside the pitch with my players. Then the reaction of the fans is normal."

The Italian, however, insisted Spurs must not allow the lack of goals to destroy their confidence.

"I said to stay calm, maybe don't lose the confidence because we are not scoring, we are not winning," De Zerbi said.

"Stay calm, improve, work hard and individually try to understand where the improvement is."

Tottenham started brightly against Everton and controlled much of the opening half, but their dominance produced little genuine threat in front of goal.

De Zerbi revealed that his side had entered the Everton penalty area 74 times but failed to turn that possession and territory into enough shots or clear opportunities.

"We didn't shoot enough for the quality of the play we showed," he said.

"We have to analyse the quality of the decisions but we made too many wrong decisions."
