Scottland FC chairman hails opportunity to take on Kaizer Chiefs

Club chairman Tonderayi Sakupwanya praised Amakhosi for selecting them as opponents for the annual pre-season showpiece.

The third edition of the Toyota Cup is scheduled to take place at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on July 26, with Chiefs continuing the tradition of hosting one of Africa's prominent clubs in preparation for the new season.

Previous editions saw Amakhosi take on Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC in Bloemfontein in 2024 before facing Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko last year.

Speaking at the official launch held at Chiefs Village in Naturena, Sakupwanya said Scottland were delighted to accept the invitation, highlighting the opportunity to test themselves against one of the continent's most recognisable football brands.

"Kaizer Chiefs approached us and we jumped on board because they are a legendary team and they align with our vision. We want to be a respected institution in Zimbabwe and also on the continent. Kaizer Chiefs has been doing it for many years," said Sakupwanya.

"We are honoured to be here and be a part of this Toyota Cup."

The invitation marks another significant milestone for Scottland, a club that has enjoyed a rapid rise since its formation just three years ago.

The Zimbabwean side recently secured its first league championship and has attracted several high-profile players, including former Kaizer Chiefs star Knowledge Musona and ex-Mamelodi Sundowns forward Khama Billiat.

The squad also features Walter Musona, further strengthening the club's ambitions of becoming a competitive force on the African stage.

For Chiefs, the Toyota Cup will provide another valuable opportunity to fine-tune preparations ahead of the new campaign, while Scottland will view the encounter as a chance to measure themselves against one of South Africa's most celebrated clubs.
