Sekhukhune United dream big as Renaldo Leaner targets League and Cup glory

Sekhukhune United dream big as Renaldo Leaner targets League and Cup glory

The in-form goalkeeper was speaking on the sidelines of the Nedbank Cup last-16 draw at SuperSport Studios on Wednesday, where he made it clear that belief within the Babina Noko camp is growing with each passing week.

"We believe that we can go all the way in the league. We really believe we can win all our remaining games. Even the Nedbank Cup - we believe we can lift it," Leaner was quoted by Sowetan.

The 28-year-old pointed to the current Betway Premiership standings as evidence that the title race remains wide open, especially when compared to previous seasons dominated by Mamelodi Sundowns.

"If you look at the log, Sundowns, who are second, are just five points ahead of us," he said.

"But in the past season, Sundowns were already more than 10 points ahead of the teams in the chasing pack. So the league is open for everyone at this point, and we will give it our all."

Masandawana have won the last eight editions of the championship, but Sekhukhune's consistency this season has kept them firmly in contention.

Leaner himself has been instrumental in the club's impressive campaign, registering six clean sheets in nine league appearances and conceding just four goals - form that has also sharpened his personal ambitions at international level.

"Being part of the Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming World Cup is a dream for me," he added.

"I really have my eyes on the big prize."

In the Nedbank Cup last 16, Babina Noko have been drawn away against University of Pretoria, who compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Ke Yona fixtures are expected to be played over the weekend of February 21-22, with the Premier Soccer League yet to confirm the exact dates and kick-off times.
