Stan Collymore claims Darwin Nunez and Alexander Isak set for swap deal

Nunez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for a hefty 64 million pounds, has struggled to find his feet at Anfield.

The Uruguayan arrived as a promising talent but has failed to deliver consistently, slipping down the pecking order under head coach Arne Slot. With limited game time this season, speculation about his departure has grown louder.

Collymore, speaking to Caught Offside, has said Nunez's confidence has taken a hit. "He arrived at Liverpool as a very confident player, and now he looks too robotic, probably because of the pressure at Anfield, which is a different beast compared to Benfica," he explained.

"He doesn't look composed or relaxed, and it's starting to affect his decision-making, especially in front of goal."

Meanwhile, Liverpool have leaned heavily on Mohamed Salah, who has smashed records this term. With their attack needing a refresh, the Reds are already eyeing options, and Newcastle's Isak stands out as a prime target.

The Swedish striker has impressed on Tyneside, but the Magpies' need to balance the books under Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules could force their hand.

Collymore believes a swap could suit both clubs. "The Alexander Isak to Liverpool rumours aren't going away, and Newcastle may need to sell if they miss out on the Champions League," he said. "Isak would be a massive upgrade on Nunez. His all-round play fits what Liverpool need in a striker."

As for Nunez, Collymore sees a fresh start at Newcastle as a perfect fit. "There's a player in there, but he can't handle the scrutiny at Liverpool," he added.

"Newcastle are a big club, so it wouldn't feel like a step down, and their fans would love him. Eddie Howe could turn him into the player many expected at Liverpool."

Collymore concluded: "I think Nunez will leave Liverpool in the summer, and it wouldn't surprise me if he went to Newcastle with Isak heading the other way. The two clubs could reach an amicable agreement that works for their FFP situations."

With the transfer window approaching, all eyes are on Anfield and St James' Park to see if this blockbuster swap comes to life.
