The club confirmed that the decision, which falls under the university’s authority as the stadium owner, is beyond their control, with the renovations being undertaken by Stellenbosch University ahead of the 2026 FISU World University Championship Rugby Sevens.
However, Stellies expressed full support for the upgrades, describing the project as a positive step toward enhancing one of the Western Cape’s most iconic sporting venues.
"While these renovations have resulted in a temporary change of venue, they also present an exciting opportunity to bring top-tier football closer to the broader Western Cape community," the club said in a statement.
"This allows more supporters to experience Stellenbosch FC live."
During this period, Stellenbosch will host their home fixtures at Athlone Stadium and DHL Stadium, with the club assuring fans that Maroon Access Season Ticket Holders will not be affected. Their season cards will remain valid for entry to all home games played at the alternate venues.
The club added that further updates regarding the progress of the renovations and the reopening date of Danie Craven Stadium will be announced in due course.
"We sincerely apologise to our supporters for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding and continued backing during this period," the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the Cape side are away in Guinea for their CAF Confederation Cup clash with 15 de Agosto at Estadio de Ebebiyini on Saturday.
