Thabo Cele calls Kaizer Chiefs move 'God's plan'

The 28-year-old central midfielder joined the Glamour Boys during the January transfer window following a stint in the Russian Premier League with Fakel Voronezh.

"I recently posted on social media my first interview from Portugal, talking about how we go to Europe trying to get into the big leagues over there. But ever since I was a kid, I wanted to play for Kaizer Chiefs because I love the club, you know what I mean? Eventually, it happened," Cele told the club's website.

"It has been a process because there were rumours floating around in previous years, and now I am here. It was God's plan for me."

Cele, who began his professional career in Portugal with Real SC, says he has been welcomed with open arms at Chiefs and believes his move to Naturena is a chance for him to grow as a player.

"I don't know how to explain the feeling. From the first minute I landed at the airport, the welcome I got from the club was amazing - not just for me but for my family as well," he said.

"People at home went crazy, calling me to say how happy they were. So, for me, it's a massive opportunity to be at such a big team and grow as a player... and hopefully help the club through this process, because we feel we are on the right track to winning trophies again."

Cele has already made three appearances for Amakhosi since his arrival, making his debut in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, which ended in a 1-0 defeat. He also featured in the 2-2 draw against AmaZulu FC and the 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC.
