Tottenham complete Kevin Danso signing as five departures announced

The club has officially completed the permanent signing of Austrian centre-back Danso from RC Lens. Danso initially joined Spurs on loan in January to provide defensive cover during an injury crisis. His performances have convinced the club to activate the obligation-to-buy clause in his loan agreement. The 25-year-old joins permanently in a deal worth 21 million pounds, as confirmed by both the BBC and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Danso's arrival follows Tottenham's successful Europa League campaign, culminating in a final victory that secured the club's return to the UEFA Champions League. The prospect of top-tier European football next season has boosted Spurs' standing in the transfer market and may help retain key squad members.

Offsetting the cost of Danso's arrival is the permanent departure of midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Denmark international spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Marseille, who have now exercised their option to make the deal permanent. Spurs will receive 17 million pounds for the 29-year-old, who made over 145 appearances for the club after signing from Southampton in 2020.

Additionally, Spurs have announced the departures of Fraser Forster, Sergio Reguilon, Alfie Whiteman, and Timo Werner.

Forster, Reguilon, and Whiteman will leave as free agents following the expiration of their contracts. Forster's role had diminished following the January arrival of goalkeeper Antonín Kinsky, while Reguilon and Whiteman were not part of the club's long-term plans.

Werner will return to RB Leipzig after a second loan spell in North London. Spurs held an 8.5 million pounds option to buy the German international but chose not to exercise it following a limited impact during the 2024/25 season.

Tottenham are expected to remain active in the market as they prepare for a return to the Champions League and aim to build on their first major trophy win in over a decade.
