Vincent Kompany: Bayern Munich ready for 'special' cup game against Leverkusen

The Bundesliga champions secured their 34th title with a 4-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart on Sunday, yet head coach Vincent Kompany has insisted there will be no drop in intensity as his side target further silverware.

Bayern are aiming to book a place in the DFB Cup final, a stage they have not reached since the 2019/20 campaign.

That season ended memorably for the Bavarians, who defeated Leverkusen 4-2 in Berlin to lift the trophy. The upcoming encounter adds another chapter to an increasingly familiar rivalry, marking the eighth meeting between the sides since September 2024.

Their recent history includes a UEFA Champions League last-16 tie in the 2024/25 season, underlining the frequency with which the two clubs have crossed paths. Bayern also claimed a convincing 3-0 win at the Allianz Arena earlier this season, though the most recent meeting proved tighter.

In March, the sides shared a 1-1 draw at the BayArena, where Aleix García gave Leverkusen an early lead before Luis Díaz struck in the second half to salvage a point for Bayern.

"These are very special games," said Kompany.

"The processes [and] the preparation remain the same and as important. We're looking forward to it.

"It's not about revenge. We only deal with what lies ahead of us, not what lies behind us. Tomorrow is another new story. We know the players well and know exactly what to expect."
