Vincent Kompany confirms Jamal Musiala back in Bayern squad to face Leipzig

Vincent Kompany confirms Jamal Musiala back in Bayern squad to face Leipzig

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Bayern head coach revealed that Musiala has made significant progress in his recovery and was ready to take the next step after months on the sidelines.

"If everything goes well today, he'll be there. That's fantastic," Kompany said. "He's radiating a lot of positive energy. Right now, even the little things are great. The first priority is his integration.

"He's had time to rebuild his body, improve his mobility and speed."

Musiala has been out since suffering a broken left leg and an ankle dislocation during Bayern's FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The injury ruled him out for several months, with the 22-year-old only returning to ball work at Bayern's Sabener Strasse training base in mid-November. He rejoined full team training in December, marking a major milestone in his comeback.

His return comes as a further boost to a Bayern side that has thrived in his absence. Kompany's team has produced a near-perfect first half of the 2025-26 campaign, winning their opening 16 matches across competitions and building an 11-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga. That run represents the best start to a season in German top-flight history.

Bayern are also well placed to qualify automatically for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 and have already reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup, keeping hopes of a treble firmly alive.

For Musiala, the Leipzig clash marked the beginning of what he hoped would be a strong second half of the season, with one eye also on earning a place in Germany's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
