'We weren't good enough', admits new Marumo Gallants coach Jamil Benouahi after shock Magesi loss

Benouahi was taking charge of his first game for the club following the recent sacking of Alexandre Lafitte.

Godfrey Mashigo (20'), Motsie Matima (68') and Thabang Sibanyoni (89') were all on target for the bottom-placed team.

The result left Gallants in 14th place on the league standings with 18 points from 23 games, one clear of Magesi, and from a game more.

Speaking after the game, a downbeat Benouahi said on FARPost that it was back to the drawing board after being second best to Magesi.

“Yeah, for sure. It wasn't the results we were seeking. We made a lot of mistakes, and when you lose 3-0, it means you haven't been good,” he said.

"We just have to go back and start working. In another five days, we have another game, so we don't have time to think about this game. We will watch the game again and see what we have done badly. So that we can try to fix everything for the 12th.

Gallants next play 15th-placed Orbit College on Sunday.

"We knew that starting from 7 April, it's going to be tough and short on time for the games," added Benouahi.

“We worked a lot for the last two weeks but we know we just have to go back, and the video will help to watch the games, and also we have to work mentally with our players to get these boys in a good state of mind quickly.”
