Why Brazil selected Egypt as final tune-up before Morocco World Cup opener

The international friendly will take place on June 6 at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland and comes exactly one week before Brazil national football team begin their Group C campaign on June 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

With the World Cup set to be played across North America and expanded to 48 teams, Brazil's preparations have taken on added importance.

Confirmed by the Brazilian Football Confederation as part of its "Road to 26" programme, the Egypt fixture has been identified as Brazil's most relevant pre-tournament test.

While the Selecao will also face Panama in Rio de Janeiro on May 31, the Cleveland encounter is viewed as a closer match simulation for what awaits them in their opener.

Egypt's profile played a key role in the decision. Africa's most decorated national side, with seven Africa Cup of Nations titles, the Pharaohs are known for their physical intensity, compact defensive structure and tactical discipline - qualities Brazil expect Morocco to bring when the tournament begins.

For Brazil's coaching staff, the friendly provides a final opportunity to stress-test tactical ideas under conditions similar to those anticipated against the Atlas Lions. It also allows for close monitoring of fitness levels, squad balance and game management ahead of a potentially decisive opening fixture.

Brazil head into the World Cup under significant pressure as the most successful nation in the tournament's history, having lifted the trophy five times.

However, recent editions have highlighted the fine margins at the top level, particularly against well-organised opponents capable of limiting space and disrupting rhythm.

Although Brazil have won all six previous meetings with Egypt, their most recent clash dates back to 2011, making the fixture a rare but valuable matchup. The focus will be less on the scoreboard and more on execution.

With Scotland and Haiti also in Group C, Brazil know a strong start against Morocco could shape their entire group-stage campaign - making the Egypt friendly a calculated and crucial step on their road to the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Pharaohs are in Group G at the global tournament, and they will face Belgium in their opening game, before taking on New Zealand and Iran.
