Xabi Alonso urges Real Madrid to end 2025 with Bernabeu victory against Sevilla

Speaking ahead of the La Liga matchday 17 clash, Alonso said the fixture capped a demanding run of matches and offered his players a chance to head into the break with momentum.

"It's the last game of the year and of a very demanding block in which we have had to play a lot of games," Alonso said. "We want to finish well, get our third win and go away with good sensations to start 2026 with energy and optimism."

Alonso has said Sevilla would provide a serious test despite their long wait for a win in Madrid, having last beaten Real at the Bernabeu 17 years ago.

"We're facing a tough opponent," he said. "Sevilla demand a lot from you. They play with many one-on-one situations and are really up for duels. But we're playing at home and we want the fans to enjoy it."

The coach stressed that expectations at the club remain as high as ever. "The demand is maximum," Alonso said. "We know what the project is and what the objectives are. It's a long road, with good moments and not so good moments, but we want to finish the year well and start the next one with determination."

Alonso has praised Rodrygo for his recent form, highlighting his influence across the attack. "It's been wonderful to see what he's given us in the last two games," he said. "He gives balance and continuity to the game. He can play on the right, through the middle or on the left, and he deserves this moment."

On tactics, Alonso has confirmed flexibility in attack. "We have played with three strikers before," he said. "It can help free spaces for Mbappe and the wingers. We have to combine individual quality with the collective idea."

Alonso added that several players were being monitored for fitness, while backing Vinicius Junior to end his scoring run soon. "He's been very close," Alonso said. "I have no doubt he'll get there."

Asked about Sevilla's long drought at the Bernabeu, Alonso was clear. "My objective is to win the game," he said. "That's all that's in our heads."
