The 28-year-old Zimbabwe international has made 53 appearances for the Brazilians since his switch from Golden Arrows, including eight games in all competitions in the current campaign.
Lunga hasn't always found himself a starter as he competes with Aubrey Modiba, Fawaaz Basadien, Asekho Tiwani and Thato Sibiya for a place at left-back but remains an important member of the Sundowns squad.
The Betway Premiership champions are currently chasing a record ninth league title in a row and are also still in the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Champions League.
They made a return to competitive action this year with a 2-0 Betway Premiership win over Orbit College on Monday, although Lunga was not in the match-day squad.
Recent recruits include Monnapule Saleng, Khulumani Ndamane and Brayan Leon, while winger Thapelo Maseko has joined Cyprus top-flight side AEL Limassol on loan until the end of the season.
Sundowns are yet to officially announce the news, but Makaab told FARPost: "I can tell you that Divine Lunga has signed a completely new contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.
"He's definitely on the plans of the team going forward.
"That's all I can tell you. I'll leave contract details to Sundowns whenever they make the announcement."
