Anrie Chase bolts to RB Salzburg in bold VfB Stuttgart exit

The 21-year-old centre-back, after a three-year stint with the Swabians, made the move with immediate effect, both clubs confirmed on Friday.

Chase's journey at Stuttgart saw him rocket from the youth setup to the big stage, earning plaudits for his tenacity and growth. "Anrie carved out an incredible path with us, rising from our academy to shine in the DFB Cup, Bundesliga, and even the Champions League," said Stuttgart's board member for sport, Fabian Wohlgemuth.

"His hard work and hunger to learn drove his progress. We're grateful for his time here and wish him every success moving forward."

The Japanese-American defender broke into Stuttgart's first team last season, racking up 20 appearances across all competitions, including 12 in the Bundesliga and five in the Champions League. Despite early promise, a muscle injury sidelined him in March, limiting his role after the winter break.

RB Salzburg, known for nurturing young talent, have handed Chase a long-term contract until June 2030. "Anrie is a bright prospect who's already shown his potential in the Bundesliga and Champions League at such a young age," said Salzburg's sporting director Rouven Schröder.

"His multi-lingual background will ease his integration, and we're thrilled he chose us despite interest from other clubs."

Chase, who joins fellow Japanese stars Takumu Kawamura and Sota Kitano at Salzburg, is eager to hit the ground running. "My goal is simple: get better every day and help Salzburg win titles," he said. "I'll give everything for success while growing as a player and person."

The transfer fee, reported at around two million euros, offers Stuttgart a modest profit while giving Chase a fresh chance to cement a regular spot and chase his dream of playing for Japan at the 2026 World Cup.

Salzburg's official X account celebrated the signing, posting: "Anrie Chase arrives at Salzburg! The 21-year-old defender joins from VfB Stuttgart with a deal until 2030. Welcome, Anrie!"

Stuttgart, meanwhile, bid farewell with gratitude: "From the Regionalliga to the Champions League, thanks for everything, Anrie. All the best!"
