Michael Kim storms into 3M Open lead with stunning 59

The American followed an opening-round 69 with a flawless display featuring 12 birdies and no dropped shots, climbing to 14-under-par 128 through 36 holes. Ben Kohles, Chandler Phillips and Emiliano Grillo shared second place, three strokes adrift.

Kim's remarkable effort was the 15th score of 59 and only the 16th sub-60 round ever recorded on the PGA Tour.

He also became the first player to break 60 since Jake Knapp's opening-round 59 at the 2025 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, ending a wait of 512 days.

Jim Furyk remains the only golfer to achieve the feat twice, having posted a 59 in 2013 before setting the Tour record with a 58 in 2016.

Kim opened his charge with five straight birdies from the third hole, added another three in a four-hole stretch beginning at the ninth and closed with four consecutive birdies, including a 24-foot, 4-inch putt on the last.

He needed just 21 putts, holed a combined 145 feet, 4 inches of birdie putts and sank eight birdie attempts from beyond 10 feet.

His round also eclipsed the tournament-record 60 previously shared by Adam Svensson and Kurt Kitayama and was five shots better than his previous PGA Tour career best of 62.

Statistical dominance accompanied the score, as Kim topped the field in Strokes Gained: Approach, Strokes Gained: Putting, proximity to the hole and fewest putts. His 12 birdies also left him one shy of the PGA Tour single-round record.
