PGA Tour rookie Jackson Koivun eyeing a shot at greatness at 3M Open

The American signed for a ten under 61 around TPC Twin Cities, enough to take him to 20 under for the tournament, three shots ahead of Ben Kohles and Argentine Emiliano Grillo.

Koivun sank a 12-foot putt on the 12th green and a 14-footer on the 18th to eagle two of the three par fives, setting a tournament record with a 28 on the back nine.

"Obviously, 61 is great," the 21-year-old told pgatour.com.

"Just excited to be able to go out there and shoot my personal best. Just got to keep the foot on the gas. After 12 and 13 I saw myself at No. 1 and I make two pars and I'm back to (tied for 1st), which is kind of a mental reset for me going into 16, 17, 18. Was able to hit a couple good shots in those and kind of put myself in position for tomorrow.

"I'm feeling great. Excited, ready for tomorrow. It's definitely going to be a test tomorrow. We've got a lot of great players behind me, but just going to stick to my game plan, and try to smile."

Michael Brennan shot a 63 and shared fourth with Chandler Phillips at 16 under, while world number one Scottie Scheffler is six strokes behind Koivun in a four-way tie for ninth place.
