PGA Tour officials meet with Trump amid push to finalise Saudi investment deal

In a statement on Thursday, Monahan revealed that he and PGA Tour board player director Adam Scott met with Trump, urging him to become involved in the negotiations "for the good of the game, the good of the country, and for all the countries involved."

"We are grateful that his leadership has brought us closer to a final deal, paving the way for reunification of men's professional golf," Monahan said.

The PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia first agreed to a deal in June 2023, but finalising a deal has taken much longer than anticipated, particularly after the US Justice Department started voicing its concerns over potential Saudi influence.

While he was campaigning for his second term in office, Trump insisted he would be able to get a deal done between the two parties in “15 minutes”.

"I'm really going to work on other things, to be honest with you," Trump he said. "I think we have much bigger problems than that. But I do think we should have one tour and they should have the best players in that tour."

Rory McIlroy was also recently quoted as saying that the new Trump administration was "going to be a bit more deal friendly."

"I think from an investment standpoint, that deal should and will be done," McIlroy said. "But it doesn't solve the problem of what the landscape of golf looks like going forward. I'd say the biggest impediment is maybe the differing visions of what golf should look like in the future."

The four golf majors are the only tournaments where the world's best players still come together as one, and even then many LIV golfers still find themselves ineligible.
