R&A haven't written off Donald Trump's Turnberry as Open Championship host
The Royal & Ancient are still considering Turnberry - owned by US President Donald Trump - as a potential host for a future Open Championship.
Vandals smeared vast amounts of red paint on the clubhouse, dug up a green, broke a lamppost, spray-painted 'free Palestine' on several walls and 'Gaza is not 4 sale' on the course.
This comes after Trump's recent comments about Gaza.
"The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it too," he said in a recent press conference.
The Palestine Action activist group has since taken responsibility for the vandalism.
"Palestine Action rejects Donald Trump's treatment of Gaza as though it were his property to dispose of as he likes," read their statement.
"To make that clear, we have shown him that his own property is not safe from acts of resistance. We will continue to take action against US-Israeli colonialism in the Palestinian homeland."
A spokesperson for Trump Turnberry said: "This was a childish, criminal act but the incredible team at Trump Turnberry will ensure it does not impact business.
"Turnberry is a national treasure and will continue to be the number one beacon of luxury and excellence in the world of golf."
