RB Leipzig confirm concrete interest in striker Benjamin Sesko

Newcastle's offer is understood to be worth 65.5 million pounds up front, with a further 4.3 million pounds in performance-based add-ons - meeting Leipzig's valuation of the 22-year-old Slovenia international. Manchester United are also believed to be monitoring the situation closely, with Sesko reportedly open to a move to either Premier League club.

The striker was left out of Leipzig's matchday squad for Saturday's pre-season friendly against Atalanta, and sources suggest he has informed teammates of his intention to leave before the transfer window closes.

Speaking after the match, Leipzig's managing director of sport, Marcel Schafer, acknowledged ongoing discussions.

"We won't go into detail on that, but when I say that several clubs have shown strong interest and have made approaches, it's obvious what has happened," said Schafer.

Sesko joined RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg in 2023 and made an immediate impact in his debut Bundesliga season, scoring 14 goals in all competitions. His blend of pace, aerial strength, and finishing ability has seen him emerge as one of Europe's most promising young forwards.

Leipzig remain open to a sale at the right price, but are under no financial pressure to offload the player, who is under contract until 2028.

The coming days are likely to be decisive as both Newcastle and United weigh up their next moves in what could become one of the biggest transfer battles.
