Sergio Garcia misses Open again as South African MJ Daffue seals Birkdale berth
Spain's Sergio Garcia has failed to qualify for the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, marking the third time in four years he has missed golf's oldest major.

The PIF, which has backed LIV since its launch in 2022, will no longer fund the tour after this season, with reports suggesting the breakaway league may need to secure new investment or consider changes to its structure.
LIV Golf is reportedly seeking around $300 million from investors to fund a 10-event schedule in 2027, but Garcia remains confident the league will survive.
"Obviously, I think they've had a lot of meetings with different possible investors," Garcia said, according to bunkered.co.uk. "I'm 99% sure that LIV is going to continue. It's just going to look different than it has the last four years. But I'm very, very confident that it's going to keep going. We'll see how it develops."
Garcia, who joined LIV in 2022 after leaving the PGA Tour, has continued to maintain links with the DP World Tour and played at last week's BMW International Open in Germany. The Spaniard is expected to feature in at least three more DP World Tour events this season and plans to renew his membership for 2027.
"Obviously, at 46, I can't play 30 events a year, but I'm going to make an effort to see if I can at least play a handful and try to do my best there," Garcia said.
The 2017 Masters champion has won 38 professional titles during his career, including 11 on the PGA Tour, 16 on the European Tour and two in LIV Golf. Garcia finished 52nd at this year's Masters but missed the PGA Championship and US Open before failing to qualify for this month's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
