Tiger Woods excited to shart shaping next era of PGA Tour amid major overhaul

On Wednesday, the tour announced that Woods will chair a new "Future Competition Committee," tasked with reimagining how tournaments are structured.

The nine-member panel will look to overhaul the PGA Tour's response to the ongoing fallout from the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League.

With Woods looking increasingly unlikely to return to professional competition, the move gives the 15-time major winner a prominent voice at a pivotal moment in the history of the sport.

"This is about shaping the next era of the PGA Tour," Woods said in a statement posted on social media.

Woods, who has played only 10 times on the PGA Tour since his February 2021 car crash, already serves on the tour board without a term limit. In his new role, he will lead five board players - Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott, Camilo Villegas, Maverick McNealy, and Keith Mitchell - alongside three executives, including baseball figure Theo Epstein.

Brian Rolapp, three weeks into his tenure as the PGA Tour's first CEO, said the committee would have a "clean sheet" to propose changes that respect golfing tradition without being bound by it.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead, including the fractured landscape caused by the rival LIV Golf League and stalled negotiations with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

"I'm going to focus on what I can control," Rolapp said. "I would offer to you that the best collection of golfers in the world are on the PGA Tour. I think there's a bunch of metrics that demonstrate that, from rankings to viewership to whatever you want to pick. I'm going to lean into that and strengthen that.

"I will also say that to the extent we can do anything that's going to further strengthen the PGA Tour, we'll do that," he said. “And I'm interested in exploring whatever strengthens the PGA Tour.”

The tour also unveiled its 2026 schedule, which features 35 events from January through August, including a new $20 million signature event at Trump National Doral.
