AC Milan withdraw transfer offer for Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface

The Nigeria international travelled to Italy for medical examinations ahead of the transfer over the weekend and AC Milan's doctors and physios clearly weren't not particularly happy with what they found.

"We knew that he had problems in the past, we are evaluating everything as planned with regards to the health and fitness of the player," Milan sporting director Igli Tare said in a statement.

"His qualities are undoubted. We are just trying to make the right decision for this situation."

While Igli did not directly say they were no longer persuing the transfer, it was all but confirmed by Leverkusen boss Simon Rolfes.

"If he comes back (to Leverkusen), the Milan deal will be over. It's no big secret," he said, according to German news outlet BILD.

With Boniface expected to arrive back in Germany on Sunday, the deal is almost certainly no longer on.

Reports suggest Milan's major concern stems from the two cruciate ligament tears he suffered while he was playing for Bodo/Glimt and the fact that he missed a lot of playing time over the past two seasons with Leverkusen.
