AC Milan withdraw transfer offer for Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface
The reported transfer of Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has collapsed after the Serie A club expressed concern for his fitness and injury history.
The 26-year-old missed out on the previous edition of the continental showpiece in 2024 despite having made his debut for the Super Eagles prior to that competition.
"Because I missed out on the AFCON last year, my first aim is to be in the squad for AFCON 2025," said Tella to the Olympics publication.
"Because I saw how well the boys did, and obviously the final (against Ivory Coast) was unfortunate. Seeing the boys representing my country, and our country doing really well, made me proud and that's what motivated me even more."
Tella has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Hove Albion, Leeds United, Burnley, and Brentford rumoured to be interested.
However, new Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag seems to have the Nigerian firmly in his plans for the season and handed him a start for the 4-0 victory over SG in the DFB-Pokal first round last week.
"To even be selected, I need to show what I can do at club level. I need to take myself to the next step because to play for Nigeria, you're not just handed the shirt," added Tella.
"You have to earn it. You have work hard for it and then once you get in, it's to stay in. There is no better feeling, no bigger achievement than being able to represent your country."
The Super Eagles are set for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo before travelling to face group leaders South Africa at Free State Stadium.
