All Blacks leaders welcome potential Rugby World Cup quarterfinal against Springboks

The 2027 RWC draw took place on Wednesday, with the main takeaway being that the defending champion Springboks could face perennial rivals the All Blacks or hosts Australia as early as the quarterfinals.

But talismanic leader Barrett is not one to shy away from a blockbuster clash.

"Along the way you're going to play potentially number one, two and three in the world and it might not be in the Final," the lock told AFP.

"So that's the beauty of the World Cup. You're going to have to peak at the right time."

Robertson added that his group of players always embrace the challenge.

"You're coming into a World Cup, you're going to have to face someone in form to win it," said the coach.

"So if the quarterfinal fits the way it works out, that's the best part of the draw. You embrace it."

New Zealand were drawn in Pool A with Australia, Chile and debutants Hong Kong. Should the All Blacks top the Pool and get through the Round of 16, they have a date with the Boks.

To do so, the All Blacks have to defeat the hosts, which could come as soon as the opening match in Perth. The fixture list will be unveiled on 3 February.

"Obviously, there's no guarantee to it, but if it is at Optus and you're playing in a full house, it is pretty special," added Robertson.

"It will be a pretty special moment and one that is a play you look forward to. So close to home, there will be a lot of Kiwis there."
