Argentina receive boost as flyhalf Tomas Albornoz returns for Springbok Tests

Flyhalf Tomas Albornoz has been cleared to play and rejoins the Los Pumas squad after missing the recent double-header against the Wallabies.

The 27-year-old had dislocated a finger during Argentina’s thrilling victory over the All Blacks in Buenos Aires last month.

With Albornoz back in contention, Nicolas Roger has been dropped from the squad, though it remains uncertain whether coach Felipe Contepomi will immediately restore him to the starting XV.

Santiago Carreras impressed in both Tests against Australia and also showed his quality when coming on for Albornoz against the All Blacks in Buenos Aires.

In Sydney, he kicked 23 points as Argentina capitalized on Australia’s indiscipline to claim a 28-26 victory.

The Rugby Championship is set to resume next Saturday, 27 September, with the All Blacks hosting the Wallabies at Eden Park, followed by the Springboks versus Los Pumas at Kings Park.

A week later, Argentina will face the Boks again, this time at Twickenham, while the Wallabies host the ABs in Perth.
