Carlos Queiroz defends Thomas Partey's Ghana selection to face Wales ahead of World Cup

Carlos Queiroz defends Thomas Partey's Ghana selection to face Wales ahead of World Cup

Partey, who now plays his club football in Spain with Villarreal, has been charged in London with seven counts of rape and one count of sexual assault relating to alleged incidents between 2020 and 2022. He denies all charges. A trial has been scheduled for later this year, although reports suggest it could be delayed until 2027.

Despite the ongoing case, Queiroz has named the 32-year-old in a provisional 28-man Ghana squad, with the possibility that Partey could feature in Cardiff - his first appearance in the United Kingdom since attending court last September.

Speaking about his selection, Queiroz was clear in his stance.

"It's a simple and basic answer," he said. "Until the court makes a decision, the presumption of innocence is on the side of all court cases.

"But today, not only about Thomas, the way social media and media sometimes act with total impunity means people are condemned before they have the opportunity to defend themselves.

"So let the events run their normal course. Let the river flow and one day when it meets the ocean, we will find the truth."

The match against Wales forms part of Ghana's build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will compete in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
