Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez explains Chelsea's defensive solidity

The Chelsea goalkeeper has recorded nine shutouts in 17 league matches this season, putting him level with Arsenal's David Raya and just one short of his total of ten from the previous campaign.

Ahead of Aston Villa's visit to Stamford Bridge, Sanchez has stressed that the team's defensive achievements are a collective effort.

Sanchez's form has not gone unnoticed. He was named the PFA Premier League Fans' Player of the Month for November, reflecting both his individual performances and the wider strength of Chelsea's defence.

"Me and the four at the back, whoever plays, have all got to a point where we all understand each other, our weaknesses and our strengths, and we play to help each other out to have the best performance possible," Sanchez said via the club's official website.

"We have hit a point where we have become very consistent. There is always space to improve even more, which we know we can, but we are doing our best every game.

"We know if we keep a clean sheet that secures the team a point, and then the guys at the top will get us three. We need to make sure we keep a clean sheet because that will make the work of the rest of the guys easier."

Chelsea face a challenging run of fixtures in the coming weeks, with games against Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Manchester City, and Fulham.

He added: "It's a busy period, so it's about having a lot of rest, managing yourself well, and having the squad to do the right rotations, which we have been doing. Everybody has been getting their chance to play in different games.

“When you're home, spend time with family and enjoy it, but also make sure you're managing yourself well and getting the right amount of rest.”
