Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca expects another 'difficult game' at Newcastle

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca expects another 'difficult game' at Newcastle

Despite sitting 12th in the Premier League table, Newcastle have proven to be formidable at home, boasting the sixth-best home record in the division.

The Magpies have won five of their eight league matches on their own turf this season, and they advanced to the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday after a midweek victory over Fulham.

Maresca described Newcastle as a "strong and intense" side and insisted that the challenge they pose is significant, regardless of the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

Chelsea, however, arrive in confident form on the back of three consecutive Saturday lunchtime wins against Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and Burnley.

The Blues also possess the second-best away record in the Premier League this season, having collected 14 points on their travels.

"For me, it's always difficult. Night or day, they are a very good team and have a very good manager who is doing a fantastic job for years. They are strong and intense, so no matter the kick-off time, it's going to be a difficult game," said Maresca.

"Yes, 100 per cent [it's one of the hardest away games], but it's not only for Chelsea, many teams drop points there.

"This season, Manchester City lost at Newcastle, Arsenal were losing until near the end, but managed to score twice. So for many clubs, it has been a very difficult pitch because they have good players, a good manager, and a good environment."
