IPL: Gujarat Titans coach backs Jos Buttler to rediscover best form

IPL: Gujarat Titans coach backs Jos Buttler to rediscover best form

He scored just 38 off 33 balls in their opening defeat to Punjab Kings, and the England opener is keen to rediscover his rhythm.

Rajasthan, meanwhile, arrive on the back of a morale-boosting win over Chennai Super Kings, making the clash a stern test for Buttler and his teammates.

Despite recent struggles, Gujarat Titans assistant coach Aashish Kapoor remains confident, insisting that Buttler is "just one innings away" from regaining form.

Kapoor highlighted that players of his calibre typically bounce back after difficult phases, a sentiment that resonates given Buttler's impressive career record.

"He's a top player, and there's no doubt about it. I don't think you people doubt that either," said Kapoor.

"Yeah, he had a bad 1-1.5 months, which can happen to any player, and has happened to most top-class players, including Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, who had such patches. But these players always come back.

"Now, he must be really eager because such players have great pride in themselves to do well. You could see the way he batted in the last match as well, trying to apply himself and wanting to make a statement that he's back in form.

"It's a matter of one inning for such players to return to form, and I think he's on the right path, so it shouldn't be a problem."

The England white-ball specialist has amassed 4037 runs in 155 T20Is, making him his nation's leading run-getter, and he enjoyed a prolific IPL 2025, scoring 538 runs in 14 matches for the Titans.

The current IPL season offers Buttler a timely opportunity to reset following a challenging T20 World Cup, where he scored 87 runs across eight innings.

Strong performances in the coming fixtures could not only boost Gujarat Titans' prospects but also reinforce his position in England's T20 squad.
