According to the BBC, Real Madrid have now reached an agreement on personal terms with Diomande. His proposed deal is said to mirror the performance-based structure of Jude Bellingham's contract, allowing his earnings to increase through individual achievements.
Madrid's interest is understood to be the result of years of planning rather than a reaction to the winger's recent rise.
Senior club figures Jose Angel Sanchez and chief scout Juni Calafat have reportedly monitored Diomande for around five years, identifying him as one of Europe's standout young prospects long before his breakthrough at the highest level.
Leipzig have made determined efforts to keep the forward, who only joined the Bundesliga club from Leganes last summer on a five-year contract.
However, interest from Europe's elite and the prospect of a record-breaking transfer fee have made retaining the teenager increasingly difficult.
Diomande enjoyed an outstanding 2025-26 campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists to earn the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season award. Real Madrid are now expected to pay more than 100 million pounds to complete a deal that would further strengthen their squad for the future.
Born in Abidjan, Diomande moved to the US at the age of 15-years-old to pursue his profession football career at DME Academy in Florida, then moved to Spain to play for CD Leganes before being transferred to Leipzig.
His return to Spain to play for Madrid comes with a lot of expectations for the teenager, who is tipped to be one of the top stars at the club.
