Kevin De Bruyne embraces Youri Tielemans' captaincy as Belgium rout Liechtenstein

The 32-year-old, who has now scored 32 goals in 112 appearances for Belgium, was joined in midfield by Tielemans in the absence of Romelu Lukaku, sidelined since August with a serious thigh injury expected to keep him out for at least three months.

Despite no longer wearing the captain's armband, De Bruyne expressed support for Tielemans and emphasised the importance of collective effort in achieving success.

"Garcia spoke with me and Lukaku at the beginning of the week and explained it to us," said De Bruyne.

"The coach made a decision that could last several years; it's a long-term choice for consistency."

The Belgian midfielder joined Napoli on a free transfer this summer, signing a contract until 2027 with an option for a further year, and made an immediate impact by scoring on his Serie A debut against Sassuolo in August.

Asked about his move to Napoli, he added: "I'm settling well in Naples after a tough summer of intense work.

"I gave everything and I feel in good shape. I still need to sort out a few things, such as moving home, but everything is going well. In southern Italy, everyone supports Napoli, and that's fantastic.

"Napoli is a great team that can still grow significantly. I hope something good can come out of it."
