Manqoba Mngqithi laments 'three penalty shouts' after All Stars fall to Orlando Pirates

The Golden Arrows head coach, who was selected by supporters to lead the fan voted All Stars side, felt the match officials failed to reward his team despite what he described as three clear penalty incidents.

Mngqithi argued that a different outcome could have unfolded had the referee ruled in their favour after Mfundo Vilakazi and Naledi Hlongwane were both brought down inside the box, while he also pointed to a handball by a Pirates defender that went unpunished.

Despite the moments, Mngqithi was encouraged by his team's overall performance against the Buccaneers and felt the scoreline did not reflect the balance of play.

"I think it was just unfortunate because, in my opinion, on any other day, we could have won the game," Mngqithi told SuperSport TV.

"We had three penalty shouts, in my opinion. Our passing game was quite good, our field occupation was good, and we had a lot of verticality and movement that threatened the box. That's where I felt we created the penalties I'm talking about."

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach stood firm in his belief that his All-Stars side deserved all three spot-kicks; while admitting he would accept responsibility if his assessment proved incorrect.

"From where I was sitting, I'm honestly sure they were penalties. And if I'm wrong, I will be happy to apologise," he added.
