Orlando Pirates reportedly set to move on from Sipho Mbule

The talented midfielder joined Pirates on a one-year contract at the start of the 2025/26 campaign following the expiry of his deal with Mamelodi Sundowns. Although the agreement included an option to extend, Pirates have opted not to trigger the clause.

A source close to the situation told FARPost that the Soweto giants have informed Mbule that he is not part of their plans beyond June, bringing an end to his brief stint at the club.

Mbule's future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks after he found game time increasingly difficult to come by during the second half of the season.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a bright start to life at Pirates and quickly became an influential figure under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. His creativity and quality in midfield played a key role as the Buccaneers lifted both the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup titles.

His impressive performances also earned him a return to the Bafana Bafana setup under Hugo Broos, culminating in his inclusion in South Africa's squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

But, following the tournament, Mbule struggled to regain a regular place in the starting lineup. Increased competition from Thalente Mbatha, Masindi Nemtajela and Makhehlene Makhaula saw him slip down the pecking order.

Despite making 23 appearances across all competitions and scoring one goal, the former SuperSport United midfielder was unable to establish himself as a consistent starter during the latter stages of the campaign.

With his departure now imminent, Mbule is expected to attract interest from several clubs. Siwelele are said to have already made their intentions known, and the Bloemfontein-based outfit is keen on securing his services.

However, with the club yet to make an official announcement, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the midfielder.
