Despite intense interest from Liverpool and Isak's reported desire to explore a move, Newcastle are determined to keep their star forward for the upcoming 2025-26 Premier League season.
Isak, 25, has been at the heart of transfer rumors after opting out of Newcastle's pre-season tour in Asia, officially due to a minor thigh injury. However, sources confirmed the injury scan showed no issues, fueling speculation that Isak is pushing for a move to Liverpool, where he could play regular Champions League football.
Reports suggested Liverpool were preparing a record-breaking bid, potentially exceeding 120 million pounds, and had agreed terms with Isak for a lucrative contract worth 250,000 pounds a week until 2030.
Despite these developments, Newcastle's resolve has strengthened, particularly after missing out on their top replacement target, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, who is now reportedly favoring a move to Manchester United.
PIF, unburdened by financial pressures, have made it clear they are under no obligation to sell. "The Saudi chiefs do not need the cash and don't need to satisfy PSR requirements," a source told Givemesport, adding that after discussions with manager Eddie Howe, Newcastle have informed Isak he "won't be going anywhere this summer".
Howe, speaking in Seoul ahead of a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur, emphasized Newcastle's control over the situation. "He is still our player. He's contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him," Howe said. "My wish is that he stays, but that's not in my full control. We have not received a formal offer for Alex from any club".
Howe also dismissed the possibility of Isak joining the Asia tour, stating, "No, no chance," signaling the need to reintegrate the striker into the squad swiftly.
Newcastle's stance is bolstered by Isak's contract, which runs until 2028, and their valuation of the player at around 150 million pounds. The club have already faced challenges in the transfer market, missing out on targets like Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Hugo Ekitike, who joined Liverpool for 79 million pounds.
With only Anthony Elanga signed as a major addition this summer, Newcastle are focused on maintaining squad stability as they prepare for a Champions League campaign.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have raised funds through the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for 65.5 million pounds, potentially paving the way for further transfer activity.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggested a 60% chance of Isak joining Liverpool, noting, "Liverpool are prepared to make a Premier League record-breaking bid for the 25-year-old, but are waiting for Newcastle to give the green light". However, Newcastle's firm position may force Liverpool to look elsewhere.
Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier expressed confidence in the situation, stating he is "not panicking" and believes Isak will continue to play for the Magpies.
Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer, while acknowledging the potential blow of losing Isak, emphasized the club's pragmatism. "It will be hugely damaging for Newcastle to lose Isak," Shearer said. "But if they can't persuade him to stay, they have to get the best deal, towards 150 million pounds, and rebuild".
As the transfer window nears its close, Newcastle's focus is clear: keep Isak, reintegrate him, and build around their talisman for a competitive season ahead. Liverpool's pursuit, while ambitious, faces a formidable barrier in Newcastle's unwavering stance.
