Report: Giovanni Reyna's Serie A switch nears as Parma push for Borussia Dortmund star

The 22-year-old American, whose contract runs until 2026, has struggled for consistent game time at Dortmund, prompting speculation about his future.

Parma have tabled a bid of around six million euros plus bonuses for the versatile playmaker, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio. The offer falls slightly short of Dortmund's valuation, but negotiations are ongoing, with the Italian club eager to finalize the deal.

"Parma have identified Reyna as a key target for their attacking midfield," Di Marzio said, highlighting the club's ambition to bolster their squad for the Serie A campaign.

The proposed deal includes a three-year contract for Reyna, with an option for an additional year and a 25-million-euro release clause, signaling Parma's belief in his potential to shine in Italy.

The young star, who has also attracted interest from clubs in Spain and France, is reportedly open to the move. "Reyna has given the green light to negotiate with Parma," Di Marzio added, suggesting the player is ready for a fresh challenge.

Previous rumors linking Reyna to Los Angeles FC have faded, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirming that the MLS side are not in active talks. "Parma are fully focused on bringing Reyna to Serie A," Romano said on X, dismissing speculation about a move to the United States.

Reyna's time at Dortmund has been marked by flashes of brilliance but hampered by injuries and limited starts. In 147 appearances for the Black and Yellows, he has scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists, yet he has struggled to cement a regular spot under coaches like Niko Kovac.

"Reyna's talent is undeniable, but he needs a club where he can play week in, week out," said former USMNT star Claudio Reyna, the player's father, in a past interview with Bundesliga.com.

Parma, who returned to Serie A after promotion in 2024, see Reyna as a potential replacement for Valentin Mihaila, who recently joined Turkish side Caykur Rizespor. The Italian club's proactive approach in the transfer market reflects their intent to compete in Italy's top flight. "We're building a squad with young, dynamic players," Parma's sporting director said in a recent club statement, though he did not directly reference Reyna.

As the transfer window heats up, Reyna's next move could be pivotal for his career, especially with the 2026 FIFA World Cup looming. A switch to Parma could offer the USMNT star the platform he needs to rediscover his form and secure a spot in Mauricio Pochettino's plans.

For now, football fans await confirmation of a deal that could see Reyna light up Serie A.
