Joao Palhinha shuts down Arsenal move rumours with Bayern commitment
Bayern Munich's Joao Palhinha has quashed speculation about a potential transfer to Arsenal, reaffirming his dedication to the German giants.
The Reds are pushing hard to bolster their attacking options under manager Arne Slot, and Ekitike's potential arrival signals their ambition to maintain their Premier League dominance after last season's title triumph.
The Reds have already made waves in the transfer market, landing high-profile signings like Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong. Now, they are focused on strengthening their forward line, with doubts surrounding Darwin Nunez's future amid interest from Napoli and Saudi Arabian clubs.
Initially, Liverpool targeted Newcastle's Alexander Isak, but with the Magpies unwilling to part with their star, the Reds have, for now, shifted their attention to Ekitike, whose 22 goals and 12 assists across all competitions for Frankfurt last season showcased his lethal finishing and creative flair.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Liverpool's momentum in the race for Ekitike, stating on X, "Liverpool have submitted an official bid to Eintracht for Hugo Ekitike. Eintracht already informed Liverpool that they want more, proposal rejected but it was initial contact as talks continue. Ekitike said yes to Liverpool, no issues on personal terms."
Romano also noted that Newcastle have withdrawn from negotiations, adding, "Newcastle have now already left talks for Hugo Ekitike, deal considered off at this stage. They now focus on different targets.
"Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg echoed this sentiment, highlighting Ekitike's preference for Anfield. He said on X, "Liverpool have verbally indicated to Eintracht that they are ready to bid for Hugo Ekitike and have made it clear they are prepared to pay more than Newcastle. Eintracht feeling that Ekitike would like to join Liverpool."
French journalist Fabrice Hawkins added further weight, revealing, "Hugo Ekitike and Liverpool reached an agreement over a six-year contract. The player only wants Liverpool. In the last 24 hours, he has rejected Manchester United."
Frankfurt, who secured Ekitike permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 for 16.5 million euros after a successful loan spell, are holding firm with a valuation around 100 million euros, bolstered by the player's contract until 2029.
Liverpool's initial offer was rebuffed, but ongoing talks suggest a deal could be imminent, potentially exceeding Newcastle's rejected 70 million euro bid. The Reds' strong relationship with Frankfurt could prove pivotal as they aim to finalize the transfer before the weekend.
Ekitike, a tall and agile forward with a knack for pressing and technical flair, fits perfectly into Slot's high-intensity system. His standout performances, including a goal every 172 minutes in the Bundesliga last season, have made him one of Europe's most coveted strikers.
Liverpool's pursuit of Ekitike underscores their intent to build a squad capable of challenging for major honors, and fans will be eager to see if the Reds can seal the deal for their new attacking talisman.
