Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu eyes Springbok return after surgery

Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu eyes Springbok return after surgery

On Thursday evening, the superstar took to Instagram to reveal he recently went under the knife. Two images showed him being wheeled into theatre in hospital and another with his right foot in a medical boot.

The Stormers star was injured after an ankle tap in the act of scoring a try in the 44-21 win over Cardiff in Cape Town on 30 May. He left the field on crutches and his Springbok season seemed in doubt.

Initially, it was thought that the syndesmosis injury could keep the 24-year-old out for up to six months.

"Frustrated, irritated and questioning why me?" Feinberg-Mngomezulu captioned on Instagram at the time.

"Sometimes the game reminds you that you're not invincible!"

Last week, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus gave the first update on his star flyhalf's situation, revealing that it was not as bad as initially feared and put an estimation on his return.

"Sacha will be ready about four weeks before the New Zealand matches," he told the press, which is around 25 July.

The highly anticipated Rugby's Greatest Rivalry Tour kicks off against the All Blacks on 22 August at Ellis Park in Johannesburg and Erasmus will be eager to field his mercurial playmaker in the starting XV.
